What Is Probate?

When someone dies, somebody has to deal with their estate (the money, property and possessions) by collecting in all the money, paying any debts and sharing the estate of those entitled.

There Are Three Types Of Grant

  1. Probate issued to one or more of the executors named in the will.
  2. Letters of administration (with will) if there is a will but does not name any executors.
  3. Letter of administration issued when the deceased has not left a will or it is not valid.

Why Is A Grant Necessary?

Organisations holding funds in the deceaseds name need to know who the money is to be payed to. The distribution of the estate is the responsibility of the person named on the deed.

In most circumstances it is advisable that a solicitor is consulted if not for practicalities, but to relieve you of all the worries and to take control of the will. Contact your local funeral director and see where your probate office is situated.

Donations To Charity

If you wish, we as funeral directors can help you with donations. Instead of people sending flowers to the funeral, you can ask people through newspapers to send donations to a charity of your choice and they can send it c/o your local funeral director. We will collect and hnd the donations direct to the charity or to the family so they can take them to the charity themselves. Some local charities are:

  • Cancer Research
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Eden Valley Hospice
  • Stroke Association
  • Hospital and Nursing Homes.
