History of George Hudson & Sons

George Hudson & Sons Funeral Directors have been serving the community for over 130 years and are continuing to give their clients the highest level of commitment and professionalism.

George Hudson started the company back in 1865 driving the locals to work from Longtown and the surrounding area, then handing over to his son George Jnr who bought Rolls Royce cars for weddings and funerals.

Peter Hudson, son of George, took over the company and turned it into the well known Funeral Directors as it is today. Now Mary, Peter’s daughter and her husband Bruce Harris continue to run the company, they have two grown up children Adam and Emily and who knows perhaps one of them will take over the business in the future.

We are an independent local family owned and managed business, dedicated to the principles, values and benefits of the traditional Funeral Service. Our involvement begins the moment that you contact us, and extends beyond the point at which the deceased is laid to rest.

We don’t use call centres, you can contact us directly. When your loved one has passed on, we will personally look after them at our Chapel of Rest. Call us to make an appointment.

The Chapel is open:

  • Monday – Friday : 9.00am – 4.00pm (After 4.00pm by appointment only)
  • Saturday and Sunday : 10.00am – 6.00pm (by appointment only)

Remember, if you require help at any time during this period, all you need do is call.

A funeral is one of life’s most personal events and we know how important it is for each family to decide on a funeral which is as meaningful as possible to their particular needs and circumstances.
